Medicare

Medicare made plain and simple.

As a Medicare eligible beneficiary, you want to be an informed consumer.  The Medicare program can be complex and confusing.  Our goal is to help you learn the basics, explore your options and help you confidently choose and enroll in the plan that is right for you, at no cost to you.

Back to the basics.

Medicare is a federal government program which provides health  coverage to eligible beneficiaries.  You are eligible to join if you:
  • Are age 65 or older and eligible for Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits.
  • Are age 65 or older and married to someone eligible for Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits.
  • Are under age 65 but qualify on the basis of disability or other special situation.
  • Are any age, but have end-stage renal disease (kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant).

You have choices

Medicare isn't "one size fits all".  What works well for your neighbor may not work for you!  Understanding your plan choices is key to help you choose wisely.
  • Original Medicare- includes Part A (hospital) and Part B (office visits and other services).  Purchasing a supplement plan will help cover gaps in coverage.  You may also want to add a drug plan (Part D) to help limit drug costs.
  • Medicare Advantage- these plans (HMO & PPOs) replace your Original Medicare plan.  They are offered by private insurance companies, cover Medicare A & B benefits and often include drug coverage.  Many plans offer extra benefits for hearing, vision and gym membership.
